Lewis-Manning Hospice Care has welcomed a student from the Bournemouth University Fusion Fundraising Academy on to a 10- month internship programme at the Poole based independent adult hospice.

Laura Feetham will be working primarily with the fundraising team over the coming months and will be based for up to 3 days per week in the hospice, whilst continuing to study at the University for the remainder of the week.

Lewis-Manning Hospice Care’s, Area Fundraiser, Vicki Gray who was involved in the recruitment of Laura said, “We are delighted to welcome Laura on board.  She has shown such a genuine interest and passion for working in the charity health sector.

“She is also keen to get an overview for working in the charity as a whole and will have the opportunity to move around the organisation and the various departments – Laura will be spending time with the clinical team, as well as working with our finance department and getting to grips with trusts and foundations.  She has also expressed a particular interest in getting involved in the retail side of our charity, in which we shall be using her as a ‘fly on the wall’ and we will using her to help create our retail strategy. It’s a wonderful opportunity for her to really delve into the workings of our community hospice charity and to learn a huge amount about working for a charity in a comparatively short space of time.”

Laura joined the Fundraising Academy having graduated from BU in 2020 in Sociology and Anthropology.

Laura added, “I chose to participate in the BU Fundraising Academy, as it is one of a kind and a huge step in the door for myself and the other interns to achieve a career in charitable work and fundraising.

“I love working with charitable causes as it allows you to give back to your local community and raise money for some amazing causes and this is why I’m looking forward to interning with Lewis- Manning Hospice Care. They are a positive and friendly team that put on a huge range of local fundraising projects that I’m glad to be able to contribute to and excited to take part in over the coming year!”

Claire House-Norman, Director of Fundraising & Alumni Relations at Bournemouth University said:

“We’re delighted that so many local charities benefited from the first year of our Fusion Fundraising Academy, and it’s great to partner with Lewis-Manning Hospice Care, as well as Diverse Abilities and The Rainbow Centre for Conductive Education, for the second year. Fundraising is key to the survival of many of our essential charities – especially in these challenging times – and we’re passionate about developing the next generation of amazing charity-workers. Hospices play a vital role in society, and we look forward to hearing about all the money Lewis-Manning Hospice Care raises to support people in Dorset.”
