Director of Clinical Services

Full-time (37.5 hours per week)


£50,000 – 55,000 (dependent on experience) plus excellent staff benefits

Based in Poole with travel to satellites in Swanage, Wareham and Wimborne

Lewis-Manning Hospice Care is an independent charity that for the last 28 years has provided exceptional end of life care and support to patients and their families in East Dorset and the Purbecks. We are beginning an exciting new phase in the story of our hospice, having moved our services to Longfleet Road in Poole, with closer to home outreach in Swanage, Wareham and Wimborne. We are currently looking for a full-time Director of Clinical Services to join our Senior Management Team. This role is key in our strategic plan to deliver new innovative and existing services, building relationships and partnerships with external stakeholders and enhancing our patient and carer experiences.

Heading up the Clinical Services team both in the hospice and remotely, you will act as the Registered Manager and will have full responsibility for ensuring the high quality of patients’ services is maintained, managed and developed. You will work with the Senior Management team to plan and deliver the operational elements of the charity’s services strategy across all aspects of clinical delivery. You will provide expert clinical leadership and practice which meets the highest standards expected, facilitating a positive working environment and a culture of continuous improvement and will be accountable for the compliance and governance for all clinical services. You will contribute to and manage the clinical services budget and help to negotiate with external bodies, developing and maintaining excellent relationships with all stakeholders and professional services.

You will have a minimum of 12 years experience with a relevant management qualification as well as a specialist qualification, up to date knowledge and recent experience of end of life care. Ideally educated to Masters level and with a teaching certificate, you will have worked for up to 3 years at Assistant or Deputy Director level and have experience in operational planning and project management. You will be able to demonstrate in depth knowledge of CQC regulations and the principles of clinical governance and NHS policy development. Experience and knowledge of similar services delivered virtually would be an advantage

Your ability to provide inspirational leadership and strategic vision will be outstanding and you will be an experienced champion of change and transformation. Your integrity and compassion will be coupled with energy and creativity to embody a collaborative and consultative approach and you will demonstrate excellent communication skills with well-developed listening and counselling ability. This role requires you to travel to our satellite provisions across the county and to meetings across the country.
