Dorset-based independent charity, Lewis-Manning Hospice Care, has strengthened its clinical services through investing in team training and expanding its network of consultants.

Deana Godwin-Parker, a specialist oncology and palliative care nurse with more than 35 years of experience, has joined Lewis-Manning as a consultant following her retirement from University Hospitals Dorset. Deana is developing learning opportunities for the hospice’s clinical nursing team to strengthen and bolster the organisation’s existing resources.

Retired GP Graeme Klein is working with Lewis-Manning in an advisory capacity to aid referrals and raise awareness of the charity’s services among local Primary Care Networks. After learning about the hospice’s work, Graeme said: “I wish I’d known about Lewis-Manning during my years in practice. The support it offers is invaluable.”

Jo Sharkey, Head of Counselling and Family Support at Lewis-Manning, has joined a BCP Council-led group to help shape a new bereavement support planner for carers across the Dorset Integrated Care System. The group will design tools to better support families following the death of a loved one.

Louise Hopley, specialist palliative care physiotherapist at Lewis-Manning, has recently qualified as a Health Coach expanding the breadth of skills and knowledge offered by the charity. Louise’s new expertise will support patients undergoing hospice care to staying active and independent for longer.

Laura Adams, Director of Clinical Services at Lewis-Manning Hospice Care, said: “We’re committed to providing patients and families in Dorset with the very best clinical care, advice, and support. By expanding our existing network of consultants and upskilling our team, we can empower more people in Dorset to live and die well, and to give them the support they need, deserve, and want. Whether it’s through clinical training, local collaboration, or new ways of supporting patients, we’re proud to continue evolving so that our services meet the needs of our local community.”

Lewis-Manning provides free of charge hospice care at home, virtually, and through local hubs. The charity supports more than 1,200 people and their families each year across East Dorset, Purbeck, and Poole.
