What matters to you, matters to us. Paving the way for you and your loved ones for the next 30 years…

Breathlessness caused by life-limiting illnesses can be frightening. The Breathlessness Service at Lewis-Manning Hospice Care helps people with respiratory conditions, such as COPD and lung cancer, manage their symptoms better by supporting them with techniques to reduce breathlessness.

What can I expect at my appointment?

  • Assessment of current breathing technique
  • Techniques to manage and improve breathlessness
  • Teaching strategies to manage anxiety and panic related breathlessness
  • Advise on managing daily activities
  • Encouragement to increase exercise if appropriate

Who can come & how do I get referred?

You will need to be registered with a GP surgery within East Dorset and have been diagnosed with a life-limiting illness. We will discuss your care with your GP, with your permission, before you attend.

You can be referred to the Breathlessness Service by any health care professional directly linked to your care.

Will I be charged for this service?

There is no cost to the patient to attend our Breathlessness Service but we encourage people to donate however much they can, so that we can keep offering our extraordinary palliative care. As a registered charity, we rely heavily on the local community’s help, support and donations to keep Lewis-Manning Hospice Care running as we only receive 20% funding from the NHS.
