Your Hospice, in Your Community

The lymphoedema clinic at Lewis-Manning Hospice care provides treatment and support for people at risk of developing lymphoedema or have developed lymphoedema following treatment for cancer.

Lymphoedema is a condition where swelling occurs in the body’s tissues following a failure of the lymphatic system, commonly caused by surgery. This typically occurs in the arms, legs, breast area and the face and neck.

What can I expect at my appointment?

We offer ongoing support with managing Lymphoedema, which is a long-term condition.  We aim to provide you with up-to-date guidance and self-management information alongside a focus on skin care, simple drainage techniques and appropriate hosiery if required.

There may be times where intensive therapy may be offered and your practitioner will discuss this with you at the time.

Who can come & how do I get referred?

At this time, we provide a service for patients treated at UHD Bournemouth or patients who are registered with a Dorset GP in the West Hampshire, Bournemouth and Christchurch area and we offer clinics in Bournemouth and Poole.  Patients will have received treatment for Cancer.

If you are awaiting an appointment or looking for further information, please see the links below for up-to-date information and guidance, self-help videos and clinical guidance on Cellulitis and its management in lymphoedema.

Will I be charged for this service?

There is no cost to the patient to attend our Lymphoedema Clinic but we encourage people to donate however much they can, so that we can keep offering our extraordinary palliative care. As a registered charity, we rely heavily on the local community’s help, support and donations to keep Lewis-Manning Hospice Care running as we only receive 12% funding from the NHS.
