This month, we caught up with Daniel who is coming to the end of his industry placement. Daniel is a Level 3 T- Level student at Bournemouth & Poole College studying Digital Production, Design and Development. Daniel started his placement in June 2025, and after completing almost 315 hours (approximately 45 days) his placement with our Ecommerce team is coming to an end.
Q1) Was the placement what you expected, or was anything different or surprising?
Going into the placement I didn’t really know what to expect as I did not do anything like this previously, but based off of the description I got beforehand nothing seemed too surprising and it was quite enjoyable from the get-go.
Q2) What has been your favourite part of the placement?
The area I liked the most was helping out with the e-cards at Christmas. It required a lot more creativity and it was nice seeing my own Christmas designs get printed to cards and available to buy.
Q3) What new skills have you developed during your time with the Ecommerce team?
The main skill I gained was how to structure ebay listings and what information is needed for different items. Depending on the item, different details may be more important to highlight and include than others.
Q4) You listed 271 items during your placement which is a great achievement. What did you learn from doing this?
I learned how certain items needed to be described more critically than others due to certain factors. For example, with vinyls you need to be more critical and detailed with your condition description as collectors themselves care more about its condition than potentially some different items.
Q5) What did you find most challenging about creating listings?
The hardest thing about listing was when it came to pricing the item. With some items you can find them being sold for a range of values, so you need to make sure you keep the price competitive whilst not underselling it. There were some items which were clearly worth selling on ebay but finding a price for them was quite a challenge.
Q6) How did you approach improving or optimising existing items for sale?
The biggest issue I found with the existing items was the quality of the photos. Some were quite dark and poorly fitted the image so editing was needed for some, and new photos were needed for other items.
Q7) How did you find working on the Christmas eCards?
Designing the Christmas e-cards was my favourite part of the placement due to it requiring more creativity and seeing each e-card finished felt quite fulfilling.
Q8) How did you find working with different teams across the organisation?
Working with different people within Lewis Manning was quite interesting and it was nice, even when brief, speaking and working with other people made the overall experience even better.
Q9) What are you most proud of from your placement?
I’d say that I’m most proud of the number of items I was able to list throughout my placement as even though they haven’t all sold yet, I have been able to contribute quite a good amount to making money for the charity which is nice to know.
Q10) Is there anything you would do differently if you were to do the placement again?
I don’t think there is anything in particular I would do different. However, I do feel I would be able to start at a quicker pace as I wouldn’t need to be trained again and learn things from scratch.
Thank you, Daniel!
