Lesley volunteers in our Ashley Cross shop and in the hospice with our patients! We asked her a few questions about volunteering…

Q1) Why do you volunteer?

I retired at the age of 70 and needed to keep up the momentum I was used to. I thought it a good time to take more interest in and help others, meet new people.

Q2) What do you most like about your volunteering for Lewis-Manning Hospice Care?

The variety of volunteering roles available. The staff without exception are lovely people and volunteers are appreciated. I have volunteered at two previous charities and Lewis-Manning is exceptional by comparison

Q3) What skills have you gained or discovered through volunteering?

Helping others helps yourself. I was amazed at how much spending time and talking to patients means to them. It makes you more aware in daily life to be more observant and sociable.

Q4) What advice would you give to someone thinking about volunteering?

Volunteering brings out your caring nature, it makes a difference to someone’s life. It is an opportunity to meet new people and learn from others.

Q5) What’s a fun fact most people don’t know about you?

Paul Nicholas (actor) ruffled my hair in the late 60’s at a West End show. (haven’t washed it since!!).

Q6) If you could have dinner with any famous person, dead or alive, who would it be and why?

Chris Hemsworth (actor) -need I say more OR Jack Nicholson (actor) as he’s my favourite actor of all time (mad as a box of frogs!)

Thank you, Lesley!
