This month’s Volunteer Voices is a wonderful example of how volunteering can open doors, build confidence and create lasting connections. We’re delighted to share Daisy’s story. After joining us as a volunteer supporting our Marketing Team, Daisy’s passion, creativity and commitment have led to an exciting new chapter as she joins Lewis-Manning Hospice Care as our new Marketing Executive.
From gaining valuable experience and developing new skills to becoming part of our team, Daisy’s journey is a lovely reminder of the incredible opportunities volunteering can bring.
Q1) What first inspired you to start volunteering with Lewis-Manning?
At the point of discovering the charity I was a final year Marketing Communications student at Bournemouth University and from living in Winton had seen the shop on the high street before. I was first properly introduced to Lewis-Manning Hospice Care as part of a university client brief for my social media marketing module. I really felt connected with the charity and their values and I wanted to volunteer or help in any way I could so I met with the lovely Lyndsey. What was really great was how much Lewis-Manning wanted to support/help me as much as I wanted to support them, so Lyndsey put me in touch with the Marketing team where I met Emily and Olivia.
Q2) Can you tell us a little about your volunteering role and what it involved?
I started volunteering at Lewis-Manning in October 2025 and I come into the office every Tuesday morning to support and work with the Marketing Team. I have done so much and helped support lots of projects which has been truly amazing. From creating social media content and filming some fun videos for Instagram, to designing flyers and posters for upcoming events and campaigns. Alongside this, I had the amazing opportunity to attend some of the events, help with set up and set down and capture fun on the day content. There is probably so much more I haven’t even mentioned, but the variety has been incredible and there is never a dull day working with the lovely team!
Q3) What new skills or experiences did you gain while volunteering?
As part of my university degree I completed a placement year in marketing and worked in quite a corporate environment, but volunteering at Lewis-Manning showed me a completely different side of marketing. It gave me the chance to build my confidence, improve my communication skills, meet lots of amazing people and get stuck into all sorts of different projects. Of course adding this work experience to my CV was such a bonus too. I loved seeing how marketing in a charity is all about telling real stories, bringing the community together and helping to make a genuine difference. It was also a great opportunity to keep developing my content creation, design and digital marketing skills while learning something new every week.
Q4) What would you say has been the highlight of your volunteering experience?
Without a doubt, the highlight has been meeting so many lovely people and having the opportunity to work for such an amazing cause. Knowing that the work I do is helping to make a real difference to the charity and the local community makes every day so rewarding. And, of course, the biggest bonus has been being offered a permanent role as Marketing Executive, starting in August 2026. It’s the perfect way to continue a journey that began through volunteering, and I’m so excited for what’s ahead!
