Why do you like to volunteer?
My reason for volunteering is I like helping people and chatting to people and I love sorting through “stuff”!
What do you most like about your volunteering for Lewis-Manning Hospice Care?
I’ve got a lovely manager, Sally, and assistant manager, Bonnie, and colleagues. Its very fun and I like meeting new people. It doesn’t feel like work, it’s like helping your mates.
What skills have you gained or discovered through volunteering?
Till and money skills, steaming clothes, organisation, and time management skills. Also being helpful to customers.
What advice would you give to someone thinking about volunteering?
Always be happy! Make the job fun by being positive and cheering people up! It’s good to help raise money to help people who are receiving end of life care.
What’s a fact most people don’t know about you?
I was born without a thyroid and so must take a lot of medication, but my positive outlook gets me through each day. I’m autistic and have ADHD and prove that just because you have a disability it doesn’t mean you can’t contribute to the community and help others. I’m also really fast at ice-skating!
If you could have dinner with any famous person, dead or alive, who would it be and why?
Elvis Presley! Because he is my idol and I adore his music and always have.
Thank you, Mia!
