Staff Spotlight Q&A with Julie, Finance Coordinator

Julie joined Lewis-Manning Hospice Care in August last year and plays a vital role in keeping the charity running smoothly. From managing budgets and tracking donations to ensuring we stay compliant and financially sustainable, her work is absolutely essential in ensuring we can continue delivering, and improving, our high standard of care.

Q1) Can you describe your role as Finance Coordinator and what a typical day looks like for you?

A typical day includes responding to inbox queries, reconciling bank transactions for both the hospice and retail, processing invoices, and preparing financial reports.

Q2) What are some key tasks or responsibilities you handle that people might not expect?

I do love a spreadsheet – nothing gives me greater pleasure than seeing a lot of jumbled up figures that don’t match and then reconciling them all!

Q3) How do you collaborate with other teams, such as Fundraising, Clinical, or Retail?

As Finance, we supply a lot of data and reporting to various teams. I also make sure invoices received for clinical supplies and provisions are paid promptly, and any clinical donation envelopes received are recorded and banked. I support Retail by making sure all their banking is recorded properly on Iplicit, and by raising invoices for House Clearances. I work closely with the Fundraising team by making sure all money received is allocated to the correct event.

Q4) What’s been one of your most rewarding moments in your role so far?

Being involved in my first audit with Lewis Manning and working with such a lovely team. They really make it a pleasure to come to work.

Q5) Do you work directly or indirectly with volunteers in your role?

I support our volunteers by processing their expenses and mileage claims, which I reimburse on a weekly basis. I also work closely with our Volunteer administrator Val, who is invaluable in managing the retail paperwork from our shops, ensuring everything is accurately matched and properly filed.

Q6) What’s one thing your colleagues might be surprised to know about you?

After work, I love going for a long walk with my dachshund Freddie. He only has little legs but really loves to get out and about. It is the perfect way to unwind after a day full of numbers!

Thank you Julie for sharing your story.
