Volunteer Voices – Meet Glenn

Glenn volunteers in our Winton shop as a Volunteer Retail Assistant! We asked him…

What inspired you to start volunteering for Lewis-Manning Hospice Care?

First and foremost I wanted to volunteer with a small local charity as I believe it is important to try and give back to the local community. I too live with a life-limiting illness (Huntingtons) so the aims of the charity are important to me personally as I can relate to the effects and challenges this brings to our service users.

What do you like most about volunteering?

I enjoy the variety my volunteering role brings, no two days are the same. With a retail and events management background, my work in the shop and helping organise pop-up events with Bournemouth University plays to my interests. I have also worked in the voluntary and disability sector, working with young adults with special educational needs and disabilities so I particularly enjoy helping to support and working alongside vulnerable adults who do amazing volunteering in the Winton shop.

What would you tell someone thinking about volunteering?

Absolutely do it! Volunteering with Lewis-manning is so rewarding and I guarantee you won’t look back. It’s a great way to meet new people, use your skills to help others while learning new skills along the way. Volunteering with a friendly and supportive charity like Lewis-Manning is such a joy!

Tell us a fun fact about you!

I was once called Rory! (Well some of the time).  When I was younger I worked for Haven Holidays as part of their entertainments team.  As well as presenting shows on the site from time to time I was required to act as the Kids Club mascot ‘Rory the Tiger’.
